Oncology Massage

Comfort-oriented massage or touch can be administered to people with cancer regardless of the severity of their condition. Eddi has taken training in Oncology Massage through Oncology Massage Matters. Isabel Adkins, her mentor, is a certified instructor by the Society for Oncology Massage (www.s4om.org) of which Eddi is a professional member. Isabel’s approach to oncology massage integrates Eastern and Western complementary techniques including Reflexology and Accupressure.

Eddi uses this massage protocol for clients who have undergone or undergoing chemotherapy, radiation and surgery as well as for those patients who are at risk for Lymphedema. Eddi realizes the importance of massage for people with cancer being a cancer survivor herself. Before each of her chemotherapy sessions, she had reflexology and after each chemotherapy session she had massage and acupuncture.

'Intangible and surprising results often occur when the session is given with the intention of comfort…'
- Isabel Adkins, Medicine Hands

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

“One of the side effects of Cancer of its treatment can be lymphedema…Anyone who has had lymph nodes removed and/or radiated in the neck, axilla, or groin is at risk for lymphedema. Lymphatic drainage techniques have been shown to relieve edema … and the accompanying pain and discomfort (Medicine Hands: Massage Therapy for People with Cancer).”

Eddi is a Certified Manual Lymphatic Drainage Therapist (C.M.L.D.T.). When skillfully applied, this therapeutic form of soft-tissue mobilization dramatically enhances lymph formation and promotes drainage within the superficial and deep systems of the lymph vascular network.
